It was great to see so many knowledgeable workers go to the polls. The workers took the time to learn about the agreement with the help of strong members such as those of our committee. Special thanks to Al Diaz, Julie Oakley, LaRhonda Ware, Ken Sullivan, Beth Lagerstadt and Luis Gonzalez for all their efforts during this process. Congratulations to all Fort Lauderdale city employees who ratified a new 3-year contract on Thursday, October 10, 2019. The vote took place at four sites throughout the city and many city workers showed strong support for the new agreement, which voted 481 yes to 43 „no.” Fort Lauderdale is the largest of the 31 municipalities in Broward County and the eighth largest city in Florida. It covers more than 33 square miles and has a population of more than 176,000 inhabitants. We support a wide variety of industries, including marine, manufacturing, finance, insurance, real estate, high technology, avionics/aerospace, film and television production, and we are known as a great place to live, work and raise a family. The City of Fort Lauderdale is looking for candidates for all positions that want to be part of a team passionately wanting to make a difference and accomplish the mission of the city of Fort Lauderdale: we are building a community. Highlights include a retirement plan for workers who had not previously received a pension and a salary increase of up to 13% over three years. In addition, the EU now has a seat on the Public Health Office and the city will increase contributions to health care with caps on membership fees.
